Weekends, how I love thee…

Saturday

On Saturday we took a short wander along the cliffs at Sarclet, where we saw a number of seals, and saw the damage caused to the haven by the sea and a landslide. Interestingly, the recent storm has uncovered a part of the old harbour at Sarclet, you can see it in the foreground of the following picture…

Sarclet is probably one of the most impressive and rugged parts of the Caithness coastline. I took a few long exposure shots trying to show this off. Long exposures flatten the sea and really allow the rocks to stand out. These are probably my favourite shots from the entire weekend.

After I got home I went for a wander up the river to try to capture a sunset photo. I managed, but it isn’t the best shot I’ve ever taken of a sunset, but in winter options within the town for a decent sunset are limited.

I managed to get home just in time to get my 365 photo taken before Kirsty cooked my subject material. Julie had chosen the subject of “colourful food”…

Sunday

Quite a miserable day really – and where did we go? – the beach! Well, it wasn’t too bad when we headed out!

We walked along Reiss Beach to the point where the Wester River cuts down through the sand to meet the sea, stopping to take a photo of the boiler from the wreck of the Aberdeen trawler “Jean Stephen” along the way. Just before the River Wester we came across a dead grey seal pup near the dunes, a possible casualty of the recent storms, poor wee thing.

Ian Horne enjoyed this next one so much that he wrote a poem about it! haha :D

Where the Wester River meets the sea,
that’s where we were, my tripod and me,
exposure set to long and slow,
gives the river that milky glow,
some coloured pebbles as a lead in line,
make this photo mighty fine

The last image from the weekend is my 6th and last 365 Challenge photo from this week. The theme for this photo was a “Photograph with Words”. I have seen this sign flashing away at the entrance to The Mountain Dew Bar and have often thought of taking a photo of it. I finally got around to it tonight, out of necessity.
