Freswick Castle Long Exposure

I took this photograph last night at around 6 in the evening. The weather was quite dull and breezy, and this makes for a really good opportunity to take a long exposure shot of the sky!

  • I took a base exposure reading after setting the aperture to f/22 and the camera said that a shutter speed of 1/8 sec would give me a good exposure.
  • Screwed the B+W 10 stop filter on the end of the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM.
  • Did the math: 2 ^ 10 = 1024 – then – 1 / 8 = 0.125 – then – 0.125 * 1024 = 128.
  • So, 128 seconds with the 10 stop filter attached to get a good exposure.

Voilà!
