Ackergill RNLI Slip-way

The slip-way at Ackergill was built around 1910 to accommodate rapid launching of the RNLI Lifeboat. It is constructed from ferro-concrete, and was apparently the first of its kind built in the United Kingdom.

The Lifeboat “Co-operator No3” was launched from the Ackergill slipway during a launch ceremony in April 1910.

In fifty-five years of service, the Lifeboat at the Ackergill RNLI slip-way was launched on fifteen occasions and is credited with saving thirty-eight lives.
